Morning Work: following directions, future careers

Circle Time:  This week’s character trait is obedience.  The manner focus is to use “yes or no, ma’am/sir”.

Literacy:  vowels and consonants, discerning the sounds of /t/, /i/, /s/; identifying and writing Tt, Ii, Ss, Nn; creating word families for “it” and “in” (bit, sit, etc. & bin, tin, etc.), service words “here” and “is”.

Math: writing numbers 1-4, recognizing numbers 0-10, understanding the concept of left/right, exploring shapes

Social Studies & Science: stoplight signals, fingerprinting, navigating an obstacle course, the police force in a community

Bible: days four-seven of creation

Morning Work: family picture, my room, future career

Circle Time:  This week’s character trait is “responsibility”, manner focus-“Be responsible with your belongings and trash”

Literacy:  categorizing objects, recalling character names,
/t/ & /i/(phonics), vowels/consonants, matching upper- and lower-case letters

Math: writing numbers 1, 2, 3, grouping and adding,
size and position, following directions, pennies/counting

Social Studies & Science: comparing measurement, using clues to identify each other, human growth

Bible: The first three days of creation

Please send in two pictures of your child:  an infant photo and a 3-yr-old photo!  

We are making timelines this week, but it has been postponed due to an absence of photos!

Please practice the memory verse each day.  Less than half of our class was able to say the verse last Friday.  Thank you!

A few of our Kindergarten friends can tie shoes.  Although shoe-tying is not required at this point in the year, I am thankful to our friends who are able to make a head-start on their shoelaces.  I have attempted to tie certain shoes in double and triple knots, but these laces are defiant :-)!  I'll practice the Ian Knot over the weekend!

Morning Work:  Journal pages include self-portrait, first initial design, fun with friends.

Circle Time:  This week’s character trait is “integrity”.

Literacy:  Learning to recognize our friends’ names,
reading color words, exploring the first reader in the Beginnings series, writing our first class book!

Math:  Counting, sorting, grouping, patterning, and writing the number 1.  Remember to use the D’Nealian manuscript when writing!

Social Studies & Science: Experiments with color mixing, exploring our classroom, setting limits.

Bible:  The boy Samuel and how God spoke to him.

First Day Fun

We had a great day!  I hope your child shared a few of our activities with you.  Thank you to everyone who brought a book to share!

I'll be tweaking a couple of things tomorrow:  temporarily moving snack to an earlier time (everyone was hungry by 9am!) and giving the children more personal space at rest time.  
A few of our friends did not have a soft towel or blanket and this seemed to hinder their rest.  Nap blankets/towels may be kept in the backpack or left in the plastic bag, kept in our closet.
Give your precious children hugs from me; they had a fabulous first day!
