January Recap ~ Photos!

Martin Luther King Day
Brown and white eggs may look slightly different on the outside,
but they are the same on the inside.
When we mixed them together,
we couldn't separate them again!
We are grateful to Dr. King for his bravery
and commitment to joining our nation.
Romans 12:10
"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Honor others more than yourselves."
100th Day Of Kindergarten ~ Counting by Tens
Zero The Hero and his friend Zerona also visited our class
on the 100th Day!
Ten different snacks, ten pieces of each...10x10=100
We show love to others, every day.
 Fairy Tale Friends
Castle Builders
We can add ten to a number rolled on a dot cube!
Art Lesson ~ Dragons Salt Painting
We began a study of outer space!  We charted our schema.
At the end of the unit, we will add more information.
The original meaning of the word "astronaut" is "star sailor".
We learned many things about an astronaut's job!

Penguins and More

--Author's Chair--
Our class eagerly anticipates sharing their work each week.
They encourage each other with enthusiasm!
--Tiny Love Notes--

We estimated how many cups of ice would be needed to fill the jar.
(It held 12!)
We wondered if the ice would melt by the end of the day. (no)
I added food coloring to the jar and the room temperature worked its magic!

I *heart* these penguins.
The equations are identical because
these boys were working together.
As you can see, their penguins tell different stories; on the right, we are treated to a view of the digestion system.
Awesome!

---Romero Britto inspired art---
I drew a rough interpretation of Mr. Britto's gorgeous work
and then printed it on yellow card stock.
The students were able to view his work online.
They were inspired by his designs.

The children set up a cozy reading area during literacy stations!

 snowmen, crafted with letter snowballs

Art Lesson~~Winter Trees
We discussed the "Y" and "V" shapes in tree branches.
We noticed that snow collects in the crook of a branch.

We crafted snowmen that had melted!
Notice the fantastic writing in these samples!

Ending '11, Beginning '12

"THANKS" to our moms--
you all provided an awesome Christmas party!

Winter Wonderland
First, we created the paper for the trees.
After placing the trees on our backgrounds,
we used templates to add snowflakes with white paint.

2012 is underway!
The children searched for "qu" in each word.

What happens to water when it freezes?
We made predictions after contemplating this question.
a)The water will freeze and stay at the blue line.
b)The water will freeze and expand above the line.
c)The water will freeze below the line.

We also formed a timeline hypothesis for melting ice cubes!
