The Why and Where of Reading

Creating an anchor chart is one way to focus learning.  Over the past two weeks, we have discussed "why" we read and "where" we read.  Of course, there are many other answers that could be included!  I am a bit limited by the chart tablet!  :-)

We highlighted the location words at the end of each sentence.

When you read for a purpose, point it out to your child.

We use clipboards to "write the room".  For this activity, the children were looking for service words and farm words.

We have achieved nine minutes in succession for "Read To Partner"!  The children take turns with chosen books.
During "Read To Partner", we sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee...EEKK!

This game is currently being used as an alphabet assessment tool.   It is called Roll, Say, Keep; we will have many variations of this game as the year goes by!
