What do cowboys and tulips have in common?

They are both part of our kindergarten curriculum!

This What-We-Know chart was done during a circle time.  (We discussed why a cowhand would use a gun---to protect the cattle, etc. from wolves or predators.) After I recorded each sentence, the children took turns in highlighting and underlining certain words.  We looked for similarities in the compound words 'cowboy' and 'cowgirl'.  We noticed that each sentence began with the same capital letter/word.

The tulip vases were created during two art classes.  In the first class, we press printed paper.  The children chose the colors for their tulips and vases.  Tulips were printed with sponges, vases were printed with bubble wrap.

In the second class, the children traced tulip stencils and cut out their flowers.  The vases were created by folding the paper and cutting a symmetrical design.

The end result was beautiful!  This project will come home after Easter.
